About: Toronto Criminal Defence Lawyer - Leslie Kaufman
A graduate of McGill University's Faculty of Law, Leslie holds both civil and common law degrees. After completing her articles with the Crown Law Office (Criminal), she was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1997 and opened her defence practice shortly thereafter. In 2001 she joined Cooper, Sandler and West as an associate, becoming a partner in 2008. In 2009 Leslie was certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Criminal Law and in June of 2012 she once again became a sole practitioner, launching Kaufman Criminal Defence.
In her seventeen years of practice, Leslie has regularly appeared before the Superior and Ontario Courts of Justice on a wide variety of criminal and quasi-criminal cases. She has represented clients charged with all manner of offences including murder, attempted murder, dangerous driving causing death, robbery, sexual assault, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, domestic assault, fraud, theft and regulatory offences. She also frequently represents individuals who are facing drug charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Leslie works extensively with individuals, and their families, who are coping with mental health issues, addictions and Traumatic Brain Injury.
Leslie served as a Trustee of the Toronto Lawyers Association from 2001 to 2004. As well, she sat on the Boards of Directors of Forgirlsake from 2006-2011 and the Red Door Family Shelter from 2009 to 2012.
